THE LANCHESTER REGISTER
was founded in 1958 by Alen Warner and the late Francis Hutton-Stott. Its objective was to
compile a register of all the surviving cars built between 1895 and 1931, the Birmingham-built
cars, built before the take-over by the powerful
BSA company, owners of Daimler. The Register
was also to provide contact between the owners
of these cars and to provide an exchange of
help and parts to keep the cars in good condition
and used regularly.
With previously unheard-of foresight, the venue for the 2011 Lanchester Register Rally has been decided on already...... look out Cornwall !
One annual touring event is organised each year and owners from all parts of the United Kingdom and from overseas attend to enjoy
THE LANCHESTER REGISTER RALLY.
This takes place in a different part of the country each year, to keep on a fair and even basis, with an owner providing local knowlege for good driving and sight-seeing. Not just a forum for technical information swopping, the Rally is designed to be a family-orientated, social affair and, indeed, many use the event as the family's summer holiday. Although cars are sometimes brought on trailers, most Lanchesters are driven to and from the Rally, from all aprts of the UK and abroad.
THE LANCHESTER REGISTER SHIELD was first donated by the late, great, Lanchester enthusiast, Tim Matthews. It is awarded annualy to the best Lanchester at the Rally, for whatever justified reason, and voted on in true democratic fashion by all those attending. Coercion and bribery are not usually allowed ! The Shield, and the honour, stay with the winner until the next Rally.
Following the wonderful time had by all at the 2009 event in mid-Wales, the rally scene moves to Northumbria for the August 2010 Lanchester Register Rally. Visting the best venues that Northumbria has to offer, the 4-day event is not to be missed for the pre-1931; it starts on Friday 13th but let's hope that only good luck comes to the Lanchesters being driven there from all parts of Britain. In view of the distances involved, many owners are staying overnight in Rippon on Thursday 12th and maybe near York on Tuesday 17th.
Post-1931 Lanchesters are cordially nvited to join in with their older cousins on Saturday 14th, from 1pm until 5pm. The venue for this particular excursion is 'Cragside', the revoltionary home of Lord Armstrong, the Victorian inventor. 'Cragside' was the first house in the world to be lit by hydro-electricity. As well as the glorious house, large gardens with service roads will provide for scenic tours and walks. Contact the Lanchester Registrar if you wish to attend , so that more details can be given.
